Goodbye (From Hackney to Poble Nou)
I've moved to Barcelona, so this is my last post in "But what's going on"... life goes on, things change and there is only one way to go... semi-skimmed.

Feel free to surf the archives, there's plenty of London and lots of pictures, or visit ¿Te quedas a cenar? (my food blog, in Spanish)

  Extraordinary things I've found - My blog´s 1st anniversary!

It´s HM´s anniversary too!!

Lately I´ve discovered extraordinary things:

"Pulsars are dense, highly magnetized neutron stars that are born in a violent explosion marking the death of massive stars. They act like cosmic lighthouses as they project a rotating beam of radio waves across the galaxy."

"Clusters, or conglomerates, of galaxies are the largest objects in the Universe. By looking at them through optical telescopes it is possible to see hundreds or even thousands of galaxies occupying a volume a few million light years across."

"The plankton captured includes tail-kicking shrimp-like creatures(copepods and ostracods), swimming worms, flying snails (pteropods), and pulsing jellyfish."

Maravilloso

*I started this blog exactly one year ago, full of things to say and images to show. Time goes so fast here in London.

  My Kieslowski customized Moleskine diary
My Moleskine diary, a little black book I'm specially fond of.

Well, it has just been improved.

2006 marks the 10th anniversary of the death of the Polish film director Krzysztof Kieslowski, an artist I'm also specially fond of. These days, there are a number of retrospectives about his work to mark the date. Here in London, the British Film Institute is showing many of his movies at the National Film Theatre.
Their monthly programme contains some beautiful frames of Kieslowski's movies, "Trois couleurs: Bleu" and "La double vie de Véronique". Funnily enough, you can cut out a part of the leaflet and you'll have both the charming faces of Juliette Binoche (Julie) and Irène Jacob (Weronika/Véronique) on each side of the paper.
Just like this:

Carefully handcrafted to fit in my diary.
Now, whenever I open it, I can hear the utterly moving musical scores of both films, by Zbigniew Preisner and let my imagination fly into the magical stories within those movies. (I'm not saying that you could hear it, but I definitely can)

Eventually, I close it carefully, wrap the rubber band around the diary again, and everything goes back to normal.
But I know I just have to open my diary to create that universe again. In fact, I do it quite often when no one else is looking.

One night I burned the house I loved - Sundays wedding

Just found this picture on the street. This size strecht onto wooden frame

One Night I Burned the house I loved

One night I burned the house I loved,
It lit a perfect ring
In which I saw some weeds and stone
Beyond - not anything.

Certain creatures of the air
Frightened by the night,
They came to see the world again
And perished in the light.

Now I sail from sky to sky
And all the blackness sings
Against the boat that I have made
Of mutilated wings.

-Leonard Cohen (Parasites of Heaven, 1966)

  Kantak V - Desolatio (B. Atxaga)

Brighton 05.03.2006

Canciones V (Desolatio)

Dice mi diccionario
que la palabra desolación
proviene del latino desolatio,
genitivo desolationis;
Y que fue en mil seiscientos once
cuando alguien la escribió
por primera vez
después de afilar la pluma
de una oca blanca.
Dice también
que soledad, ruina y destrucción
son sus significados principales.
Pero nada dice el diccionario
del corazón de la gente
que marcha por la calle;
nada dice de nosotros,
nada dice de los patios
de la cárcel o del cuartel...*
